Welcome to Berlin

It’s with great pleasure that we welcome you to the AVA Autumn Meeting 2017 in conjunction with the DVG Vet - Congress in the colorful city of Berlin. The main topic `All about Small Animal Surgery` of the DVG Vet - Congress is perfectly supplemented and completed by `Options and Limits in Veterinary Anaesthesia` by the AVA.

The AVA Pre-Congress Day on Thursday covers “The bleeding patient” with updates on transfusion medicine and perioperative management, coagulation disorders, Sepsis, DIC and SIRS. A topic which is relevant for residents, nurses and general practitioners and anyone interested.

The AVA main conference programme will give interesting thoughts and perspectives from a medical and veterinary background. We have great speakers who have travelled from various European countries, Australia, South Africa and the United States to share their experience and knowledge.

Human and veterinary anaesthesiologists, physiologists and an ethicist and philosopher will present lectures on topics like “the role of sodium channels in anaesthesia and analgesia”, “novel strategies to prevent opioid side effects”, “hypoxia during opioid-induced wildlife immobilization” and “ventilation under difficult circumstances“ will show us the options. But sometimes things become complicated and good things turn ugly. Presentations on “cardiopulmonary bypass in veterinary patients”, “cardiopulmonary resuscitation and aftercare” and “ethics in veterinary surgery and animal experiments from an anaesthetist`s and from a philosopher´s perspective“ will show us the limits.

The programme also mirrors versatile scientific activities as abstracts and posters from many different countries. In advance, we would like to thank all speakers, who submitted high-quality abstracts, thereby, contributing to a successful outcome of the congress.

AVA never forgets the social programme, with a welcome reception and a Gala Dinner in the 19th century Mirror Hall of Clärchens Ballhaus.
